Across has launched on Linea

Tldr; Across has expanded to Linea. The integration is the product of a close partnership between the Across and Linea teams. The move will make the zkEVM solution and its ecosystem’s applications more accessible and expand Across’ presence on Layer 2.

Key takeaways:
  • Across has launched on Linea, the Layer 2 zkEVM solution built by ConsenSys. Across and Linea have worked in close partnership on the integration to strengthen both projects.

  • Linea users and developers can now benefit from Across’ intents-based framework and Across users can easily access one of the most promising zkEVMs.

  • Across is committed to accelerating cross-chain interoperability with intents and adding support for major Layer 2s like Linea is a key part of this mission.

The cross-chain ecosystem keeps growing and Across has a starring role in the story. Across V3 launched last month, unveiling major features like cross-chain intents settlement and bridge hooks for executing actions on a destination chain. V3 is the protocol’s biggest level-up yet and it lands off the back of a strong 2023 in which we shipped key integrations and our market dominance soared.

In early 2024, cross-chain interoperability is one of crypto’s dominant themes. It’s a particularly crucial period for the Layer 2 ecosystem as talented teams unite to scale Ethereum. The top Layer 2s are growing, new chains are coming, and Across is unlocking seamless interoperability between them with intents.

Today we’re proud to announce another big development for the cross-chain ecosystem as Across goes live on Linea. This integration is the result of close collaboration between the Across and Linea teams and it strengthens both projects. It also affords Across users many more possibilities as they explore the cross-chain world. We explain how below.

Introducing Linea

Linea is a burgeoning Layer 2 solution developed by ConsenSys, the Ethereum development company behind products like MetaMask and Infura. ConsenSys spent almost two years researching Layer 2 technologies before bringing Linea to market.

Unlike many of the earliest Layer 2 rollups, Linea is a zkEVM offering EVM compatibility with Zero-Knowledge Proofs. Linea is among the fastest-growing ZK-Rollup chains today, currently holding ∼$400 million in locked value, per L2BEAT data.

Linea offers Layer 2 users similar benefits to other zkEVMs: fast finality, low fees, and superior base layer security. It also integrates first-grade Web3 products from ConsenSys and uses a cutting-edge system called the Vortex Prover, a type of zkProof that enhances Linea’s performance.

With the Linea launch, Across is expanding its presence in the Layer 2 ecosystem. Across is committed to supporting Layer 2’s growth and Linea is among the ecosystem’s top chains today. Across offers routes between Linea and all other supported chains.

For cross-chain users, this integration offers a way to access Linea’s fledgling ecosystem in a cost-effective manner thanks to Across’ intents-based framework. Loyal Across users are already accustomed to seamlessly navigating Layer 2 and they now have a wider field to explore.

How Across’ support will benefit Linea

Linea’s zkEVM solution promises to advance the Layer 2 ecosystem. With its next-frontier zkEVM technology, Linea offers fertile ground for developers to deploy applications that offer scalability.

Across’ intents-based architecture is a key benefit to Linea. As Across uses relayers to fill orders when users express their intent, it’s extremely fast and cost-effective for users. The system also makes gas optimizations that result in savings for end users.

With V3, Across introduced new features that transform the Layer 2 landscape. Across+ lets users request a transfer “+ action” at a destination with hooks, which means Linea developers can offer users an array of multi-chain activities through one interface.

Fragmentation and UX issues have been the biggest costs of Layer 2 scalability. With Across, Linea can remove user friction due to the system’s intents-based design. Across V3 lets applications provide users with a slick Web2-like UX, offering fast finality and low costs. V3 is also the first protocol to settle cross-chain intents, allowing any source of cross-chain order flow to plug into the protocol.

In short, Across opens up new possibilities for the Linea ecosystem. Linea users and developers can benefit from the system’s elegant design, with features like hooks expanding the frontier of cross-chain interoperability.

A collaboration to boost the cross-chain ecosystem

Crypto is a fast-evolving, multi-chain ecosystem and Across has become one of the ecosystem’s most beloved products as the cross-chain space has grown. The Linea integration only improves Across’ offering. With support for Linea added, Across has extended its reach, with more users and developers able to take advantage of the system’s leading design.

Across is built on two core principles: crypto needs robust cross-chain solutions and intents are the key to cross-chain interoperability. Our collaboration with Linea invites another key Layer 2 project to access the power of intents, boosting the ecosystem as a whole.
